Join the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary education team as we celebrate Humpback Whale Awareness Month! This family-friendly presentation includes a visit from “Big Mama” the life-sized model of an actual humpback whale with the same name. Learn about the characteristics, behaviors, migration patterns, and vocalizations of humpback whales, and their presence in the Pacific Northwest.
Background: This program is presented by the NOAA educators with special guest “Big Mama.” Enhancing public awareness and appreciation of the area’s natural and cultural marine resources are the cornerstone of NOAA Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary’s mission, which follows directly from mandates of the National Marine Sanctuary Act. Sanctuary educators develop and implement programs that inspire ocean conservation and stewardship using NOAA science and the concepts of Ocean Literacy. The dynamic team includes specialists in the fields of marine science, education, and communications. More info here.
