EPA National Estuary Funding (NEP) for Puget Sound Recovery

Department of Ecology 6PPD Funding

Funding available for 6PPD Stormwater Research: Ecology's 6PPD Team anticipates receiving $2.9 million for new 6PPD stormwater management research. This funding will support 2 years of research from July 2025 - June 2027. Qualifying funding recipients include Tribal Nations and public organizations as defined by RCW 39.34.020. If you have a project idea, reach out to Madison at madison.bristol@ecy.wa.gov to set up an initial meeting. To learn more about this funding, please visit 6PPD stormwater research website.

Though there is no deadline for proposals, pitches received between April - June 2025 and projects led by or in collaboration with Tribal Nations will be prioritized for funding.

Tribal Electric Boats Program

The Tribal Electric Boats Program will award $4,750,000 to Tribes to support the electrification and hybridization of marine power for Tribal fishing, research, and patrol boats. Learn more and apply here.

WA Clean Energy and Tribal Clean Energy Grants

WA Department of Commerce is accepting grant applications for clean energy projects and Tribal clean energy projects. Learn more about clean energy projects HERE and Tribal clean energy projects HERE.

Floodplains by Design

Floodplains by Design grants are targeted at reducing flood risks and restoring river functions along Washington's rivers. The pre-application period for the new grant round opens November 1st and closes January 23rd, 2026. There will be two informational webinars for first-time applicants (November 5th) and returning applicants (November 6th). Salmon Recovery Through Local Planning

WWA Department of Commerce is providing grants to local and Tribal governments to support updates to comprehensive plans and development regulations as they affect critical salmon habitat. Learn more by signing up for workshops for local governments (October 1st at 10:00 am) HERE and for Tribal governments (October 1st at 11:00 am) HERE. Apply HERE.

Estuary and Salmon Restoration Program Grants

This grant program, administered by the Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) provides grants and technical assistance for projects that restore and conserve near-shore areas in Puget Sound. There are multiple grant areas and application dates vary. Learn more and see RFPs as they are released HERE.

Temper of Times Foundation

Small grants can fund production of advertising or materials and distribution that will lead to measurable outcomes for wildland ecosystem conservation and restoration. Learn more HERE.

MJ Murdock Charitable Trust Strategic Grant Program

The Trust funds conservation, environmental education, natural resource protection, and wildlife preservation projects. The grants can fund capital projects, equipment and technology, or staff. Learn more and apply HERE.

National Fish Passage Program

This program aims to improve habitat for federal trust species and support infrastructure improvement for communities nationwide. Eligible projects provide benefits to aquatic habitats and infrastructure resiliency. Expected to fund $10M in awards. Learn more HERE.

Brian Abbott Fish Barrier Removal Board Grants

This grant program supports work to identify and remove barriers for salmon and steelhead migration. Learn more about this program HERE.
